Description
This Colt Frontier Six Shooter, manufactured in 1893, is a true classic of the Old West era. Chambered in .44-40 WCF, this revolver was built on the Colt Single Action Army platform and carries the distinctive “FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER” roll-die marking on the barrel. Widely associated with cowboys, lawmen, and ranch hands of the late 19th century, these revolvers were prized for their reliability and power.
This example features a 4 ¾-inch barrel, the quintessential “cowboy configuration,” and a blackpowder frame with two-line patent dates. It is fitted with two-piece Colt eagle hard rubber grips, showing even wear consistent with use over more than a century. The gun retains a smooth, salt-and-pepper patina with scattered light pitting, offering a pleasing antique look. The bore shows slight darkness with strong rifling, while the chambers remain very good. The action cycles properly.
Notable condition points include a distressed and scoured cylinder pin from improper removal, fouled butt and trigger guard screws, and grips with internal markings crudely removed. Despite these flaws, this revolver remains an all-original, mechanically sound antique with undeniable frontier charm and collector appeal.
